Multi-Sensory

"Let us return thanks to Nature for her bounty by using every one of the senses she has given us."

— Virginia Woolf

Have you noticed?
Every season seems to have...

Its own aroma
Its own color scheme
Its own soundtrack

Do You Sense the Changes?
As harvest season on the tea farm comes to an end...

The Smell:
Warm flower fragrance is replaced with cool damp leaves.
The Light:
Lowers and colors change from bright green and deep pink to gold and misty grey.
The Sound:
My symphony of crickets and bees is growing softer.

What a gift we give ourselves when we sip each moment with all our senses.

That tea in your teacup?

Was birthed in a multi-sensory world

Shared, now, with you.

Sight

"The butterflies spread their sails on the sea of light. Lilies and jasmine surge up on the crest of the waves of light. The light is shattered into gold on every cloud, my darling, and it scatters gems in profusion."

-Light, Rabindranath Tagore

Vivid
/ˈvivəd/
adj.
Very bright and strong in color.

Clear.

Detailed.

Strong in the mind.

Butterflies flit playfully through the echinacea.
Dusty purple lavender blossoms sway gently.

The blue of the sky here is so chromatic that a recent visitor from Los Angeles commented:
"I never knew that's what color the sky could be!"

This is the beauty in which the tea in your teacup was born.
What equally vivid marvels lay just a short glance beyond your own teacup right now?

Touch
"I want to sleep on the hard ground. In the comfort of your arms. On a pillow of blue bonnets. And a blanket made of stars."

- Cowboy Take Me Away, The Chicks

Soft
/sôft/
adj.
Something that yields easily to touch.

Is smooth or quiet.

Lacks hardness and rigidity.

When I touch a hibiscus petal I am surprised by its smooth tenderness
The gentle brush of feathery yarrow leaves is something like an almost imperceptible breeze
And every young plant is so flexible, willing to sway as I pass through them

It is the touch of my fields that teaches me most...

To be flexible not rigid
To be tender
To touch others gently

Sound
"The earth has music for those who listen."

- The Magic of Sound, Reginald Holmes

Hum
/həm/
verb.
A deep, vibrating noise.

The natural noise of an insect in motion or a similar sound.

In meditation, a Sanskrit syllable meaning "I am" or representing the exhalation of breath.

Bees and crickets.
Their music is my summer soundtrack.
Like binaural chants that lure my brain into calm frequencies.

This is why when people come to my farm they say:
"It's so very calm and peaceful here."
If you're quiet here, you hear it.

Smell
"To be overcome by the fragrance of flowers is a delectable form of defeat."

- Beverly Nichols

Pheromones
/ˈferəˌmōns/
noun.

Chemical signals released into the environment that trigger a physiological or behavioral response.

Did you know?
There is a direct pathway from our nose to our brains. No other sense has such a connection.

Did you know?
Scents given off by plants offer our human species many benefits.

One word: Peppermint
One more word: Lavender
Okay, but also: Chamomile

Inhale... Airways open... Heart rate drops...
Don't Ask Me How It Works.

Taste
“Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influence of the earth.”

- Walden, Henry David Thoreau

Nourish
/ˈnə-rish/
verb.

To promote the growth of.

To help an idea, feeling, plan, or relationship develop and grow stronger.

To furnish or sustain.

To Taste This Tea...

Is to enter into communion
With all that its ingredients are exposed to;
To be nourished by laughter and delight and joy.

Dear Tea Drinker,
My blessing to you this month: May we sip each moment with all of our senses.
May we...
See the vivid light that surrounds us; letting it offer clarity and brightness.
Feel the lessons of nature: flexibility, tenderness and gentle touch.
Hear the calming, natural hums that bring our minds into a frequency of peace.
Inhale nature's scents that shift us psychologically and physiologically.
Taste the nourishing communion with laughter, delight and joy in every sip from our teacup.

As always:

Thank you

I'm honored to be your herbal tea farmer.

Be well,
Shannon
